what is slow your roll
We started Slow Your Roll after a life-changing trip. We came home and experienced that after vacation dread MOST people experience. Ya know, when you've just spent the last week oohing and aahing over the slightest thing, all because you're in a new place. Everything is always EXTRA beautiful in that place you don't live.
I'll admit, I was feeling real pouty about no longer having mountains right outside of my window. "I would live in a van, in the snow if I had to!!"
So dramatic.
But, while trying to convince Austin that we should just up and abandon our *perfectly content* lives, to throw in the towel on each of our businesses that we had been working very hard to build, and find a van and go live in the mountains, because "we just need that in our life!"
... he said, "it's pretty beautiful here, too." "We should be grateful."
It's such a simple thought. of course, we should be grateful... but in that moment it was like I was learning about gratitude for the first time. The next day, driving down the same roads we had driven every day for years... suddenly it was all new to me. Every weed was a glorious flower. There were buildings I had never seen before. The sky was extra blue.
It's only a switch on a mindset. A decision. To take the time to see the everyday beauty. To appreciate every ounce of this mysterious and wonderful life we live. And it changes everything.
Slow Your Roll is just a way to wrap all of that up into a general idea. Slow Your Roll. Enjoy The Ride of life. It's all so beautiful.
Even the painful parts.
How lucky are we to feel love.
To feel a hurt that can only come from loving so hard.
To be able to laugh, sing, and dance.
To know that there are butterflies and bees and birds all living among us, buzzing and singing, in their own little worlds.
We can learn from them.
As most of you probably know, we did end up abandoning *half* of our lives. We sold anything we owned and moved into our sweet little camper in the woods. We had the most amazing experience, and it lead us to so many new paths that we could have only dreamt up.
And we're still dreaming
and learning
and slowing our roll
